For seven years the Cerved SME Report has been portraying the economic and financial condition of Italian SMEs, thanks to Cerved information on firms financials, demographics, payments, credit scores. This task in 2020 is more difficult than in the past: Covid-19 will have unprecedented impacts on the SMEs, which generate great uncertainty. In presence of a structural break such as the Covid-19, traditional econometric models can not adequately capture the impact on firms. Therefore, Cerved information tools and data have been reinforced introducing Covid-assessment analyses, that take into account the particular nature of this crisis. Traditional chapters on SMEs’ balance sheets, demographics, payments and risk have therefore been enriched by Covid-assessment analyses and tools. A focus is dedicated to estimating the effects of Covid on employment and investments of Italian firms.
